Basic Definitions
Here
are definitions for terms on this web site. However, I've quoted sources
throughout who interchange "briquetter" with "pucker," and "puck" with
"briquette."
Batch Wringer
- A spinner that removes fluids using centrifugal force, also known as
a slinger or spinner
Briquette - The compressed-chip
product of extreme pressure (see briquetter), typically more dense and
predictably shaped than a puck.
Briquetters(1)
- Relatively expensive, high volume, high horsepower, high pressure rotary
press type devices for use at scrapyards, foundries and secondary smelters.
They produce briquettes in a highly-efficient, continuous operation.
Chip processing / management
- Automatic collection, segregation and processing of the machining components
of chips, fluids, and solids from the point of generation to final transportation.
Chip management often just refers to the fluid removal portion.
Pellet - Yet another
term for puck, although most people apply "pellet" to smaller products
(plastic, gerbil food, etc.)
Puck - The product
made by compressing saturated chips, via hydraulic pressure, into a disk
of scrap, typically three to eight inches in size, of varying shape and
density ("expect to see over 70% of solid puck density...")(2)
Puckers(3)
- Relatively inexpensive, low volume, low horsepower, low pressure piston
and chamber type devices for use at machining facilities. They produce
pucks in a fill-compress-eject cycle.
Slinger - See also
'Batch Wringer'
Spinner - See also
'Batch Wringer'
Wringer (automatic)
- The fluid removal device in a chip processing system, extracting fluids
via centrifugal force
